Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Criminal Justice Program at Fairmont State University ( FSU ) is currently recruiting applicants for an Assistant Professor for the Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice programs for a Fall 2025 appointment. The individual in this position will teach undergraduate classes face-to-face and online graduate level courses, in a nine-month tenure track position. The B.S. program is well established and respected, representing one of the largest majors on campus. The M.S. Program is online and is rapidly expanding. The successful candidate will also be expected to implement and manage a police academy training program during the summer months for additional compensation.
The ideal candidate will be able to teach a variety of courses in the Criminal Justice major. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm in teaching, advising, and student advocacy; ability to work cooperatively and productively with faculty, staff and students; commitment to productivity and professional development; ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning; and active participation in department, college and community service. The expectation for teaching will include law enforcement classes such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Police Operations, Analysis of Police Operations, and Firearms. Special topics courses may be available depending on the
The ideal candidate will also have significant professional experience in law enforcement. Leadership roles and experience managing a police training academy or similar program will be considered favorably.
Minimum Required Education
Requirements include a Ph.D. or a close to completion ABD, in Criminal Justice, Criminology or closely related discipline. Candidates with a J.D. and equivalent field and professional experience will also be considered. Candidates with a J.D. without equivalent field and professional experience will not be considered. Candidates with only a M.S. will not be considered.
