Job Summary:
The Associate Director, Electrical Systems & Projects oversees all electrical, electronics, and life safety systems for a 3.0 million GSF campus with over 150 buildings across 550 acres. Key responsibilities include providing electrical engineering support for new construction and renovations, specifying equipment, and prioritizing capital projects within the Facilities Capital Budget. The position also involves developing and managing project budgets and preventive maintenance programs, as well as overseeing electrical staff and contractors.
Job Duties:
Essential Functions
Project Management & Design | 60%
- Serve as the primary technical resource for electrical and life
safety systems.
- Assist the Planning, Design and Construction (PD&C) group
in large renovations and new construction projects.
- Manage electrical-focused projects, including estimating,
scheduling, and contractor management to meet customer or building
requirements, as well as code and University guidelines.
- Design electrical systems and life safety systems for smaller
renovations and equipment replacement.
- Coordinate plans, projects, and shutdowns across all university
departments.
- Prepare reports, specifications, and contract documents for
projects and large electrical purchases.
- Analyze bids and recommend or approve contract awards utilizing
standard University purchase order and contract
procedures.
Talent Management | 15%
- Oversee recruitment, supervision, and performance evaluations
for Electrical Shop staff.
- Train personnel on safe work practices and enhance their
effectiveness.
- Conduct staff planning and implement new facility
programs.
- Ensure adherence to work rules, conduct standards, and
university and departmental policies and procedures.
Maintenance and Operations | 15%
- Utilize the CMMS to manage work orders and preventive
maintenance.
- Review and analyze completed work orders for timeliness and
accuracy.
- Develop and implement predictive and preventive maintenance
procedures for electrical equipment, and monitor and evaluate their
effectiveness.
- Create and analyze reports using the CMMS system to support
decisions regarding equipment repair and replacement.
Sustainability and Energy Conservation | 10%
- Support Bucknell University sustainability and energy
conservation initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Campus Energy Manager and Director of
Sustainability to identify, analyze, and quantify energy
conservation opportunities, and implement projects and repairs to
enhance systems.
Other Duties
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of University
program and department planning and in the establishment of
department goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field,
plus five years of recent experience in electrical engineering,
design, construction, preventive maintenance, and life safety
systems, including a minimum of three years in a supervisory
role.
- Alternatively, an Associate's degree or certification in
Electrical Engineering or a related field with seven years of
relevant experience, including a minimum of three years in a
supervisory role.
- Knowledge of current NEC and NFPA codes.
- Skilled in reading and creating engineering drawings and
specifications for electrical and life safety systems.
- Proficient in computer applications, including spreadsheet and
word processing software.
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of a background check, conducted upon
hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Continuing education in NEC and NFPA codes, addressable life
safety systems, and other related areas.
- Experience managing facilities equipment, preventive
maintenance programs and work orders through Computerized
Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as TMA.
- Experience/knowledge of computer aided design software such as
Auto CAD and/or Building Information Modeling software such as
REVIT.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to navigate buildings and grounds across campus,
including climbing stairs and ladders, walking on various surfaces,
and entering trenches, crawl spaces, and confined areas.
- Required to use appropriate safety equipment for hearing, head,
eye, foot, hand, and body protection.
- Capable of lifting and carrying at least 25 pounds.
- Position involves working both indoors and outdoors, with
occasional exposure to diverse environmental conditions such as
heat, noise, dust, dirt, and emergency situations.
This position is classified as part of essential services. Individuals are required to report to work even if the campus is closed or has a delayed opening/early closing due to emergency/exigent circumstances.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
