Department Information

The Department of Psychological Science is committed to supporting faculty who deliver high quality teaching, create research opportunities, and foster close student-faculty mentorship. We offer enthusiastic and innovative instruction by professors who teach courses in their specialty areas. Because this passion for psychology is sustained through active research and professional growth, the department is dedicated to supporting outstanding research facilities and continued faculty development. Our curriculum encourages undergraduate students to fully explore the multi-disciplinary field of psychological science. Through our teaching, research, and mentorship we instill respect for multiple viewpoints and approaches, while inspiring intellectual curiosity and personal growth.

Job Summary

The candidate will teach 15 course hours per semester to include introduction to psychology, research methods, psychological statistics, and a course in their area of expertise.

Responsibilities

Teaching and Instruction -
Teaching is a primary responsibility of all Georgia College faculty. Specific duties for this position include but are not limited to the following. The candidate will teach 15 course hours per semester which will include introduction to psychology, research methods, psychological statistics, and a course in their area of expertise.

Lecturers are primarily evaluated based on their teaching performance. They are expected to excel in classroom instruction, develop engaging and effective curricula, and demonstrate a commitment to student success. Regular course evaluations, peer observations, and continual improvement in teaching methods are essential aspects of this role.

Scholarship and Creative Activity -
Although lecturers may be active in scholarship, a record of scholarship is not required for reappointment or promotion. Scholarship expectations for lecturers in the College of Arts and Sciences generally focus more on teaching and service rather than traditional research.

Service to Institution -
Service is an essential responsibility of all faculty. Lecturers are often involved in service to the department, college, university, and community. This may include serving on committees, advising students, participating in faculty governance, or contributing to outreach and recruitment activities. Compared with tenure track faculty, lecturers have a reduced service expectation. The extent of service is defined annually by each department's chair.

Public Service -
The extent of public service is defined annually by each department's chair. Public Service may include activities such as interest in community outreach and engagement, mentoring and overseeing students working in the community, and membership and participation in community organizations.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Advanced degree in Psychology

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))

Other Required Qualifications
This faculty member may also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non- majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey

Required Experience
Coursework and previous experience (preferred) teaching the following courses, Psychological Statistics, Research Methods, Introduction to Psychology

Hiring preference will be given to faculty who demonstrate an understanding of Georgia College's mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship. Prior teaching experience at the university level is preferred.

ABD candidates will be considered if the degree is conferred within the first year of employment.
