About This Role:
The Department of English and Modern Languages seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English. We are specifically seeking a pre-20th century Americanist who can also teach in another subspecialization of literature, such as world literature, early British literature, Atlantic world literature, or Indigenous Studies. Candidates should also be prepared to teach a range of classes, from graduate seminars to sophomore literature surveys or first and second semester composition courses as needed.
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities:
- Implement effective teaching strategies.
- Maintain an active research agenda that includes publication of research in peer-reviewed journals and presentation of scholarship at conferences.
- Actively participate in academic service at the department, college, and university levels.

- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to implement effective and innovative teaching strategies.
- Ability to perform academic research in degree area of specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to service to the university, profession, and community.
Physical Requirements:
Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants should have an earned PhD in English or related discipline by August 2025 involving research and course work in the appropriate literary specializations.
