Chief Purpose of this position: Massey is seeking a highly motivated non-tenure-track Faculty Researcher, Assistant or Associate Professor, to join Dr. Robert Winn's (Director of the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center) laboratory. The selected candidate will engage in dynamic, interdisciplinary research projects centered on signaling pathways in cancer. As part of Dr. Winn's laboratory, the candidate is expected to work effectively with the lab team and various collaborators. Responsibilities also include submitting manuscripts to high-impact journals and applying for peer-reviewed extramural funding.

Position Responsibilities:

- Research: Undertake cancer research activities that are aligned with Massey’s vision and mission. Submit and obtain peer-reviewed grants, preferably NCI R-type independent and U-type team science grants.

- Publish manuscripts in high impact journals. Work closely with Dr. Winn to harness the considerable intellectual talent and scientific resources of VCU and Massey and focus them on solving the nation’s cancer problem.

- Teaching and Mentoring: Train and mentor graduate students seeking M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

- Service: Serve as member of departmental as well as university wide service committees.


Required Qualifications:

- PhD, MD, or PhD/MD and a minimum of 6 years extensive experience in cancer molecular biology, cancer cell biology, or a related field.
- Experience with in vitro assays and in vivo animal models as they relate to cancer biological mechanisms and drug discovery.
- Ability to maintain detailed documentation through electronic and notebook means.
- Demonstrated creativity, high motivation, solid communication skills, and experience in writing progress reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
- Extensive publication record.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary fields.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in basic molecular biology.
- Experience in lung cancer research – ideal, but not required.
- Experience working in a matrix environment within academic medicine.
- Proven success in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven trainee and faculty mentorship skills.
- Experience working closely with chemists, structural biologists, and clinical researchers.
