Position Summary & Description

The Department of Psychology in the College of Health Sciences at Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for an open rank, tenure track faculty position in Clinical Psychology, to start in Fall 2025. Area of specialization is open, and the position includes a blend of clinical supervision in our doctoral program, teaching, research, and mentoring.

The current department of 11 faculty offers a PsyD program in clinical psychology which has been APA-accredited continuously since 1986. The program, which follows a practitioner model of training with a strong commitment to science-based education, accepts approximately 15 graduate students each year. Comparisons with other university-based Psy.D. programs on measures of excellence (e.g., EPPP pass rates, internship placement rates, etc.) place us among the top programs in the country. The department houses the Center for Applied Psychology, a clinical services facility, which provides opportunities for clinical training and research in therapy and assessment. At the undergraduate level, the department offers a rigorous bachelor's degree program of approximately 500 majors that includes an honors program and faculty-supervised research opportunities.

Founded in 1875, IUP is a vibrant, comprehensive, research-based, teaching-focused, student-centered learning community located approximately 55 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. IUP combines the academic opportunities of a large university with the highly personalized and intimate learning-centered environment of a small college and serves approximately 9,000 students, 1100 employees and a diverse community of visitors on the Indiana (main), Punxsutawney, and Pittsburgh East Campuses as well as the Kovalchick Complex. Position Qualifications

Required:
  • A doctorate from an APA-accredited clinical psychology program with the expectation that the candidate will become licensed in Pennsylvania.
  • Applicants must also demonstrate a potential for excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, for supervision of doctoral students’ clinical training, and for assuming a leadership role within the department.

Essential Functions

Academic faculty must have, and maintain the physical and mental abilities, communicative skills, and stamina necessary to carry out the essential functions of their positions in teaching, research, scholarship, and service. Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve standing to a significant degree, walking for brief periods of time and may include driving requirements. Faculty must be able to:
  • Teach courses assigned by the departmental chair on a schedule made of a combination of standard class-meeting times as determined to meet instructional needs and adhere to the requirements of the department's curriculum.
  • Teach courses for a mandated number of contact hours per week over a full semester and meet university expectations for final exams.
  • Present course material in a clear and organized manner using methodologies appropriate to the discipline.
  • Evaluate student work fairly and promptly.
  • Perform the physical requirements of laboratory, field work, studio work, or other activities outside typical classroom instruction if applicable.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the discipline through continued scholarly activity and research.
  • Participate actively in assignments necessary to advance the service and/or outreach of the department, college, and university.
