Serve as the secondary communicator of DePauw athletics and its twenty-three intercollegiate sports programs to internal and external audiences, supporting enrollment marketing and advancement efforts by developing and managing media relations activities, press releases, electronic communications, social media and other vehicles that ensure successful exposure of DePauw athletics. Responsible for ensuring effective collection, organization, documentation and dissemination of information and all statistics related to DePauw athletics events.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
● Ensure an effective sports information presence at all home games and attend specified away games, ensuring effective coverage of game responsibilities including: Ensure records are maintained, and that statistics and highlights are compiled and sent to media and the NCAA and others after all home and away games. After games, provide statistics to coaches of both teams and to the NCAC office; and provide statistics and game highlights to media contacts. For sporting events not personally attended, receive information from hosting institutions, format appropriately and disseminate to media.
● Produce press releases for media and the web that report on DePauw’s athletics results, programs, events and activities and as well as accomplishments by individual students and coaches. Attend athletics-related events and interview individuals as appropriate; write, edit and format release copy; and oversee production and distribution of releases, including to hometown media as appropriate.
● Working with the Assistant Athletics Director for Athletics Communications, utilize video resources available to DePauw to schedule production of live video broadcasts of athletic events as well as edited highlight video packages of selected athletic events, with the goal of ensuring archived video coverage of each of DePauw’s sports programs. Schedule additional postseason coverage as warranted.
● Develop, maintain and update athletics-based social media accounts for DePauw athletics, providing regular updates with results, information and feature material regarding DePauw athletics. Determine appropriate platforms on which to present such information in accordance with user base and current trends.
● Contribute to the development of other DePauw collateral materials and online communications by providing sports updates, information and photos of people, events and facilities related to DePauw athletics. Identify subject matter, research and write sports-related feature stories for DePauw’s alumni magazine.
● Ensure the DePauw University athletics website is maintained and updated.
● Maintain all athletics communication department procedures, reports, updates and records of activity, as well as photo files in accordance with department procedures. Archive historical Athletics information. Compile and submit reporting forms for conference and national statistics leaders.
● Keep informed of the latest advances in the field of athletics communications/sports information, including technology aspects.
● Perform other related duties and tasks as appropriately assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience: Excellent writing, editing, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. A minimum of three years of post-college experience in a sports marketing position involving media relations, basic layout and design, printed materials development and production, athletic events reporting, project management and statistical information development. Familiarity with statistical software and NCAA statistical rules. Familiarity with desktop publishing, image-editing and Web-editing software is required. Relevant experience at an institution of higher education is a plus.
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Google Apps, Teamworks and other programs as determined by specific responsibilities. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, image-editing and Web-editing software is required. Ability to take photos of a quality for small-scale reproduction in sports publications is required.
Certificates & Licenses: A valid US driver’s license is required.

● Ability to independently manage multiple priorities, as well as to work to deadline and effectively manage others to do the same. This requires an individual who is well organized, detail-oriented, flexible and self-directed with good stress management skills.

The assistant/associate director will stand/walk/sit for 8 hours per day, while performing office tasks (meet with student-athletes and colleagues and respond to correspondence) for 1-2 hours per day, and on the phone and computer 5-6 hours per day.
The assistant director is required to create and respond to correspondence (email and Microsoft office/Google docs) and maintain electronic records in a timely fashion.
The assistant director must be able to assist in case of an emergency at competition, supervise students on day and overnight travel, and organize/manage travel plans for themself and any students traveling with them.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is conducted in a traditional office environment as well as inside and outside in athletics and recreational facilities. Ambient temperature, humidity and extreme heat or cold may be present.
This individual must be able to quickly record information on a computer, climb stairs to enter various individual venue press box areas, and take photographs and video.
