Position Summary

The department seeks engaging teacher-scholars who will inspire our undergraduate students, while complementing the research areas of the department.
Applications from all areas of mathematical science such as algebra, analysis, topology, and geometry are encouraged. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in student engagement activities such as mathematics club advising, colloquium organization, competition training and supervision, undergraduate research, etc.

The typical teaching load is twelve credits per semester with an assignment of two sections of a four-credit introductory course and a 3 or 4 credit advanced mathematics course. The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Teach effectively in a variety of courses, including service courses as well as those for the mathematics undergraduate majors;
• Maintain appropriate research and scholarly activities in mathematics;
• Participate in updating and revising the department’s curriculum;
• Assist with student advising and program development;
• Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

Required Qualifications

• Doctorate in mathematics or closely related field. ABD will be considered. The degree must be earned by the end of the first Academic Year.
• Evidence of the ability to teach a broad range of mathematics courses to students with diverse backgrounds and skills;
• Evidence of a commitment and ability to maintain an active scholarship program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Research expertise in algebra, analysis, topology, geometry, number theory, foundations (logic, set theory), combinatorics, discrete mathematics.
• Experience or interest in directing students on research/independent study projects.
• Experience or interest in directing students in community building and experiential learning activities.
• Experience or interest in developing and assessing their teaching craft.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has a faculty of 31 members, with 14 tenure-track faculty of mathematics. The department offers undergraduate programs in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Data Science, Statistics, and Statistics with Actuarial Science concentration. The department also offers a Master’s program in Applied Statistics and a collaborative Master’s program in Data Science. The department supports and values diversity in its faculty, staff, and students.
