Job Summary/Basic Function

The Manager—Aerospace Strategic Communications and Outreach reports to the Chair of the Department of Aerospace. Responsibilities include managing department communications and outreach services and providing guidance and direction in advancing the department's strategic plan and mission. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of internal and external communication, marketing, multi-media strategies, stakeholder outreach, student recruiting, and retention initiatives, leading and managing events, including airshows and career expositions, donor giving, promotion of academic programs, managing and mentoring assigned personnel, assisting the chair in developing and promoting a brand image. As a representative of the Department of Aerospace, duties include in-state and out-of-state travel to represent the department at public events for recruitment, outreach, strategic communication, and development activities. This person will serve as a key member of the department leadership team, as the department marketing liaison with other Managers of Strategic Communications and MTSU Marketing, and will promote a consistent, professional, and integrated brand for the department.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, aviation management or a related field. Five (5) years of directly related progressively responsible experience may be considered with a bachelor's degree in an unrelated field.

Required Related Experience

Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in managing marketing and strategic communications, public relations, organizational communication/marketing, or related experience is required. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills to reach a target audience and key stakeholders. Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technology, media, and digital communications and how to implement appropriate strategies for specific projects. Ability to effectively organize and manage personnel and multiple concurrent projects. Marketing and managing academic events for community and campus audiences. Maintain data and generate reports on communication effectiveness. Internships or student workers/employment may be considered in combination with full-time experience.

Desirable Related Experience

Prior experience within a university/college, collegiate aviation, or aviation industry. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in a related field.
