Post Doc Res Assoc
Job Summary
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher to join the Holmes Research Group (https://holmes.che.utah.edu/) at the University of Utah (UU). The postdoc position is available for one year, with the potential to renew for another year. The postdoc will conduct research under Dr. Heather Holmes and Dr. Derek Mallia (Department of Atmospheric Sciences) in wildfire smoke emissions, chemical transport, and numerical weather prediction modeling.
Responsibilities
The primary focus will be on maintaining and improving an existing air quality forecasting system that uses numerical weather prediction (WRF) and chemical transport (CMAQ) models. Specific topics of investigation include (1) improving forecasts of wildfire smoke emissions through use of data from laboratory experiments and insights from fire spread models, (2) incorporating improved windblown dust emissions that include exposed lakebed as relevant dust sources, (3) developing bias correction methods for air quality simulations over mountainous terrain, particularly as it relates to wintertime inversion events, and (4) evaluation of the weather and air quality forecasts.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferences
Preference will be given to candidates that have experience working with WRF, CMAQ, and emissions inventories.
