Job Description
Summary/objective
The Psychology faculty member will be an essential part of the Department of Social Sciences, contributing to academic excellence, student development, and community engagement within the psychology program. The candidate for this position is expected to teach a diverse range of courses across the undergraduate curricula. Undergraduate teaching responsibilities include 12 credit hours per semester. Areas of teaching responsibility include, but are not limited to, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Statistics, Theories and Learning, Personality Theories, Abnormal Psychology, Research Methods, and Counseling Techniques. The psychology faculty member will report to the Department Chair. Additional responsibilities include online course instruction, advising students, serving on university committees, participating in program development and assessment, contributing to recruitment and retention efforts, and providing service to the department, university, and community. Faculty must also hold eight (8) office hours per week to support students effectively.

- Teach and Mentor: Develop and deliver high-quality courses in psychology; advise and mentor diverse student populations.
- Research and Scholarship: Conduct original research in psychology, and related areas, producing peer-reviewed publications and securing external funding.
- Program Development: Collaborate with faculty to design and implement innovative curriculum and experiential learning opportunities that reflect contemporary issues in psychology and psychological sciences.
- Community Engagement: Partner with community organizations, and stakeholders to address urban mental health and psychological challenges and promote data-driven research initiatives.
- Assessment and Administration: Evaluate student performance, contribute to program accreditation efforts, and participate in department and university governance.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports the success of historically underrepresented populations.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Support the department's evolving needs and strategic goals through collaboration and adaptability.

Required education and experience
Educational Qualifications
• A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of psychology, such as Clinical, Counseling, Developmental, Social, or Experimental Psychology.
Teaching Experience
• A minimum of three years of successful full-time teaching experience at the college or university level, preferably at an HBCU or similarly diverse institution.
• Experience teaching a range of psychology courses, including foundational undergraduate courses (e.g., General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology)
• Demonstrated ability to teach online, hybrid, and in-person courses effectively, incorporating technology and innovative teaching strategies.
• Experience in-person and online course delivery using multiple learning management systems is required.
Scholarship and Research
• A strong record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent scholarly contributions.
• Evidence of the ability to integrate research into teaching, involving students in research projects where applicable.
• Experience or potential to secure external funding to support research or program development.
Student Engagement and Mentorship
• Experience advising and mentoring diverse student populations, including first-generation college students and historically underrepresented groups.
• Commitment to fostering student success and professional development through advising, research supervision, and career mentoring.
Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
• Demonstrated ability to create inclusive learning environments that respect and value diversity.
• Commitment to addressing the unique educational and psychological needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
The level of appointment is dependent on relevant experience.
Preferred education and experience
• A Ph.D. in Psychology, or a closely related field; A.B.D. Candidates may be considered if all requirements for the Ph.D. are completed within one year of appointment.

• Active participation in departmental, university, and community service.
• Availability to hold regular office hours and provide academic support to students.
