1. Academic Leadership in Research, and Graduate Programs:

  • Supervises the Executive Director of the Gerace Research Institute, Executive Director of Small Island Studies, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, and the Director of Research.
  • Provides strategic leadership for graduate programs, research activities, and grants management.
  • Collaborates with APs within Academic Affairs, University Librarian, Deans, and other administrators to align activities with the overall university strategic plan.

2. Faculty Affairs in Research, and Graduate Programs:

  • Implements effective strategies for faculty recruitment to meet teaching and research priorities in graduate programs.
  • Recommends to the Provost/VPAA the hiring of regular full-time and adjunct faculty.

3. Policy Development, Implementation, and Compliance:

  • Regularly updates and maintains academic policies specific to Research and Graduate Programs.
  • Collaborates with the Provost/VPAA to develop policies aligned with institutional goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with academic policies and university-wide policies within the designated areas.  

4. Research:

  • Oversees the development and implementation of strategies to enhance research activity at the university.
  • Manages the research grant application and approval process.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Research to ensure the successful administration of research projects.
  • Advances the quality of undergraduate and graduate instruction, supporting and sustaining faculty research activities.  

5. Faculty Recruitment and Evaluation:

  • Spearheads the recruitment, hire, orientation, and retention of qualified faculty.
  • Ensures faculty assessment and evaluation in accordance with university policies, recommending annual increments upon satisfactory performance.
  • Monitors full-time and part-time faculty workloads, duties, and responsibilities.  

6. Budget Management:

  • Develops and manages budgets related to graduate programs, research, and grants management.  

7. External Relations in Research, and Graduate Programs:

  • Builds and maintains relationships with external partners and stakeholders relevant to graduate programs, research, and grants.
  • Represents the University on national and international committees.  

8. Student Success in Graduate Programs:

  • Collaborates with colleagues to provide academic, financial, and psycho-social support to graduate students.
  • Contributes to efforts aimed at enhancing retention and graduation rates in graduate programs.
  • Recruits and retains talented students, monitoring student enrollment and facilitating the timely completion of degree requirements.
  • Facilitates the resolution of disagreements or conflicts between faculty and students, providing advice and support for disciplinary processes when required.
