About the Job

St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) is currently seeking a Post-doctoral Associate at the University of Minnesota. This position is specifically for a stormwater research group and the project relates to climate change analysis and adaptation, and comparison of design storm intensity distributions to real storm intensity distributions. Job duties include meeting and collaborating with stormwater research group members and partners (5%); downloading and analyzing climate data (25%); modeling climate and watershed adaptation strategies (20%); drafting research project deliverables (35%); presenting research results at meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars (5%); and other duties necessary to complete the research (10%). This position is 40 hours per week with a start date as soon as possible and going through June 30, 2026, and the position is a hybrid work environment (in person and remote).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in civil or environmental engineering, or similar field
• Experience in water resources analysis and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (EPA-SWMM)
• Proficiency in python scripting
• Experience managing large meteorological datasets
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in stormwater management, design, and maintenance
• Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS)

About the Department

This position is located in the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL), an interdisciplinary fluid mechanics research center of the College of Science and Engineering. SAFL research is focused on fundamental fluid dynamics and the intersection of fluid mechanics with major societal challenges in energy, environment and health. The lab integrates cutting-edge experimental work at laboratory and field scales with advanced computational tools and theory to obtain innovative, science-based solutions to fluid-flow challenges. Research is led at SAFL by 16 full-time faculty members with appointments in Departments of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Earth Sciences, and Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics in the College of Science and Engineering, as well as in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior in the College of Biological Sciences. SAFL personnel includes research and support staff members, postdoctoral associates, graduate students, as well as visiting researchers and undergraduate interns conducting research at SAFL.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $56,484-$57,000 ; depending on education/qualifications/experience
