Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Research Assistant to join our dynamic team of Microbiologists at TAILOR Labs, recently established at Baylor College of Medicine. TAILOR Labs focuses on exploring the therapeutic potential of natural or evolved bacterial viruses (bacteriophages) for the treatment of multi-antibiotic resistant bacterial infections. As a part of this effort we also explore the human virome in wastewater and correlate signals to public health data. This position will Develop and lead an experimental sequencing program, collaborating with local experts to design new experiments and facilitate brainstorming sessions. Managed the setup and optimization of sequencing equipment and protocols, ensuring cost-efficient reactions and training technicians in advanced techniques. Gained proficiency in computational tools for genome analysis, implemented literature-based protocols, and contributed to manuscript preparation and grant writing.
Job Duties
- Lead the development of an experimental sequencing program including meeting with local experts.
- Manage the set up of new machines for sequencing including maximizing the economy of reactions.
- Leaning computational tools for analysis of genomes.
- Going to the literature to obtain protocols and implementing them.
- Optimizing protocols and teaching technicians to learn these techniques.
- Managing meetings between local experts and bringing people together to hypothesize and brainstorm session.
- Designing new experiments.
- Writing manuscripts and aiding in grant writing.
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
