Research Assistant (Hourly), School of Medicine/Department of Pediatrics

Position Summary:
The purpose of this part-time position is to support the research activities of the NIH-funded project by working closely with the Project Coordinator and 1-3 Research Assistant(s). The Research Assistant will be required to undergo in-house training and be familiar with the study protocol. The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist the Project Coordinator with the research activities that take place virtually. These activities include, but are not limited to:

Core Responsibilities:
● 10% - recruiting participants
● 45% - transcription of audio-/video-recorded interviews
● 45% - qualitative coding of recorded clinical encounters and participant interviews

Minimum Hiring Standards:
● Flexible schedule including weekends
● Excellent communication skills
● Ability to work productively in highly diverse and collaborative environments
● Demonstrated record of dependability and reliability
● Demonstrated record of working with individuals from diverse demographic characteristics
● Working knowledge of computer programs and systems, especially Microsoft Office and Google
Suite
● Working knowledge of virtual meeting platforms, such as Zoom
● We are seeking candidates who bring personal experience and an understanding of the
LGBTQIA+ community, as it is vital to the responsibilities of this position
● Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student
environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Some training in Psychology, Public Health, Health Services, or closely related fields
● Service orientation, commitment to excellence and professional growth

This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
