Assistant Director of Development
College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) and the Office of University Advancement is seeking a confident, creative and enthusiastic individual to become an instrumental part of its advancement program.
The Assistant Director of Development for CANR at Michigan State University, the University’s flagship college, will support the entire development team through implementation of a comprehensive fund raising program for CANR, MSU Extension and AgBioResearch all while working with many of the more than 75,000 members of the college’s alumni base.
This individual will use the skills that they have developed through past fund raising experience to:
- solicit major gifts ($30,000-$100,000) for the College;
- manage the volunteer relations as it relates to fund-raising activities;
- manage the annual fund campaigns for the College;
The Assistant Director reports to the Senior Director of Development for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, MSUE and AgBioResearch.
Characteristics:
- Assists director in consulting with and obtaining the support and endorsement of appropriate leaders and officials of the College and the University in the development of program plans.
- Solicits gifts through face to face appointments and telephone solicitations at the major gift level and coordinates personal direct mailing in order to obtain and/or increase donor contributions for the College.
- Plans, coordinates, promotes and implements special fund raising events and programs in order to increase donor response.
- Recruits, organizes and trains volunteers for fundraising efforts.
- Assists with research in order to determine areas within the University in need of support and develops proposals seeking support of those needs.
- Develops copy for proposals, promotional brochures, appeal letters and other supportive materials for solicitation purpose.
- Expected to manage a portfolio of 150-200 prospects.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years of experience in professional and/or higher education fund raising, preferred. Experience in marketing or related field will be considered with philanthropic knowledge.
- Working knowledge of tax laws affecting charitable giving.
- Travel involving automobile.
- Extensive In State and Occasional Out of State Travel
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
