Vice President for Enrollment Management
Denison University seeks an inaugural Vice President for Enrollment Management upon the retirement of its longtime Vice President and Director of Admissions. Reporting to the President, and a critical member of the Senior Staff that determines the University’s strategic direction, the new Vice President will lead Denison’s efforts to recruit and enroll an academically strong and diverse student body, while also overseeing financial aid and working with faculty and other administrators to improve first-year retention (which currently stands at 92%). Supervising a staff of 28, the new Vice President will inherit a highly functional team and will find a culture of enthusiastic partnership across a University that is poised for greater prominence.
Denison’s distinction derives from a long history of high standards, financial strength, the devotion of its alumni and the appeal of its hilltop setting in the village of Granville, OH, a self-contained New England settlement 24 miles from the state capital of Columbus. Founded in 1831 and focused then, as now, on preparing effective leaders and active citizens, Denison today is a highly selective, four-year, independent and fully residential national liberal arts college. It enrolls 2,200 undergraduates from all 50 states and 37 foreign countries. Denison’s application process is SAT-optional, and admissions are need-blind. Thanks to the University’s $800 million endowment and $52 million financial aid budget, 95% of current students receive need-based financial aid and/or merit scholarships.
During the past decade, Denison has significantly diversified and raised the academic profile of its student body. The new Vice President will have the opportunity to build on this success, by enhancing Denison’s competitive position among the nation’s leading undergraduate institutions, while also creating broader awareness of the University’s excellence in geographic regions beyond its traditional strongholds.
Qualifications: Candidates should have a record of leadership within the admissions and financial aid operation of a highly selective national liberal arts college or research university that has succeeded in strengthening its enrollment profile. The successful candidate will be an articulate champion of the liberal arts curriculum and the educational benefits of an intimately scaled residential college community. Technical sophistication, familiarity with enrollment analytics and expertise in financial aid leveraging strategies are essential. Denison expects the new Vice President to be, or soon to become, an acknowledged national authority and spokesperson on undergraduate admission and financial aid issues, who can further substantiate the University’s relationships in the media and the college admissions counseling field.
Review of candidate materials will begin immediately and continue until the appointment. Application materials should be submitted to the link found at: employment.denison.edu. A complete application will include a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae and contact information for five professional referees who can speak about the candidate’s qualifications for this position. Expressions of interest, nominations and inquiries should be directed to Denison’s search consultant, Chuck O’Boyle of C. V. O’Boyle, LLC, at chuck@cvoboyle.com, who will furnish a detailed specification and an internal position summary upon request.
To achieve our mission as a liberal arts college, we continually strive to foster a diverse campus community, which recognizes the value of all persons regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic background.
