Business Career Services at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for MBA Career Advisers at two different levels of experience: Assistant Director and Associate Director. The successful candidate's qualifications will determine the level to which he/she is appointed.
MBA CAREER ADVISORS-TWO LEVELSBoth levels of professionals (Assistant Director and Associate Director) will serve as key point of contact for MBA students and employers in providing career planning, advising and understanding talent demand and will be accountable for direct placement of MBA students into internships and full-time employment. Both positions also assist with serving the other College of Business students.
Key responsibilities include one-on-one advising MBA students on their career development and job search strategies and engaging with corporate employers to drive talent demand for MBA students. This includes assisting each student to develop and continually refine a job search strategy/marketing plan for both internship and full-time employment; actively monitoring each student's progress against career goals; and guiding, assisting and holding students accountable in the achievement of those goals as well as direct interface with employers to understand their talent pipeline and MBA demand, assist in marketing and building their corporate brand and reputation on campus and with students and facilitating engagement of students and employers. This position will be held accountable for placement of MBA students. In addition, the Assistant/Associate Director will assist in the creation and delivery of career workshops/seminars for MBA students, along with running special events such as career fairs and professional development events, including activities and events associated with MBA Alumni.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Three or more years of related professional work experience, preferably in recruiting, sales, consulting or advising.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
- Master's degree required; MBA preferred.
- Five or more years of professional work experience in recruiting, sales, consulting or advising.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS-BOTH LEVELS
- Superior communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to foster positive relations with multiple, diverse constituencies.
- Student-centered philosophy and ability to work with a diverse student population.
- A strong commitment to customer service.
- Excellent resume, interviewing and job search skills.
- Highly proficient with web-based resources, spreadsheet and presentation software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel).
- Strong understanding of MBA career paths and management level career issues along with in-depth understanding of the MBA employment market and corporate MBA hiring practices/process.
- Ability to work under pressure, with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.
- Strong organizational skills, defining tasks, prioritizing assignments, and following through on all projects independently.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel.
These positions are full-time, benefits-eligible academic professional positions appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Interviews may be conducted before the closing date; however, no hiring decisions will be made until after the search has closed. Salary and position level are commensurate with experience and qualifications.
