Lab Aide
Job Summary
Performs non-technical procedures in a research laboratory and maintains laboratory facilities, equipment and records.

- Transports, configures, cleans, sterilizes, dries, organizes and delivers scientific glassware, plastic-ware, and other equipment up to twice daily in high paced environment
- Position works in team settings utilizing shared resources/equipment for 50+ wet research labs between HCI-RN and HCI-RS Institute buildings
- Position is expected to maintain regularly scheduled equipment cycles while fulfilling spontaneous online orders
- Assists in maintaining Core laboratory space and team space; daily cleaning, shipping and receiving, inventory, organizing team space; daily cleaning, shipping and receiving, inventory, organizing
- Clean and organize laboratories, common equipment areas, and other parts of the buildings
- Run errands on campus as needed, including lab coat laundering
- Position interacts daily and serves as a liaison between researchers and home department
- Position requires focus and ability to flow despite disruption
- Position may serve as spot back-up for Production team including Media Prep
- Position may be required to assist with counterpart department's special projects
Job requires attention to detail, multi-tasking, excellent organization and meticulous time management skills, where tactile learning is preferred. Applicant is expected to complete numerous time sensitive projects daily, in a high paced environment, communicating/orchestrating tasks with teams. Position requires walking, standing for long periods of time.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and to keep accurate records is required. Decent handwriting and basic math skills required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Position serves as liaison between researchers and home department team daily.
General knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology, as well as the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment, along with the knowledge of appropriate specimen handling techniques preferred. Applicant operates several autoclaves/industry machines/tools daily.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Employee must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, repetitively lift up to 50 lbs., push loaded carts and cages (50-200+ lbs.), demonstrate manual dexterity, and be able to repetitively grip and manipulate bottles and lids. Items handled are hot, sharp, and heavy. Environment is moderately loud and warm. Routine short exposure to environmental elements daily. Other potential job hazards related to working with sharps and chemicals.
Minimum Qualifications
This is an entry level position and on the job training is provided. The ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; the ability to keep accurate records; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
