Description:

American University (AU) is a private doctoral institution situated in a residential neighborhood of northwest Washington, D.C. The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is dedicated to providing a rich education in the liberal arts and sciences for all of American University's students, while offering challenging programs of study for its graduate majors that foster outstanding research, practice and creative activity. With 323 faculty and approximately 1,000 graduate students, the College of Arts and Sciences is comprised of 17 departments, 70 graduate programs and 5 PhD programs.

This position reports directly to the College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and will direct all activities relating to the graduate enrollment. Primary emphasis will be establishing targeted enrollment goals and creating and implementing a recruiting, admissions and conversion strategy to achieve the enrollment number. As the College's liaison to various professional associations, the Director will oversee all graduate programs marketing including recruiting fairs, advertising, publications, and web sites and will along with the other members of CAS graduate enrollment team members represent CAS at recruitment events domestically and abroad. The Assistant Dean, in conjunction with the departments and the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies will be expected to identify opportunities for new programs or new clients for existing programs. The Assistant Dean manages the CAS Graduate Enrollment Management Team.


Educational Requirements:A minimum of a Master's Degree or the equivalent in education, training and experience.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in the admissions department of an institution of higher education with demonstrated experience in recruitment and communications for graduate programs
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and developing and managing partnerships
  • Demonstrable knowledge of admissions policy and standards and marketing strategies
  • Supervisory experience
  • Collaborative work style and teambuilding experience
  • Culturally sensitive
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Additional Information:Must be able travel domestically and internationally. The Assistant Dean must be cognizant of all University policies as they relate to graduate enrollment, guidelines for admissions, guidelines for admission policies and grading scales throughout the United States, and the specific academic qualifications for admissions into each graduate program. A working content knowledge of all CAS graduate degrees and programs is required.
