Organizational Summary:  The Office of Undergraduate Studies (UGS) works in partnership with the academic colleges in the development, review and enhancement of the undergraduate programs to assist faculty to provide outstanding undergraduate education for students. The members of the UGS team work with faculty to establish and administer academic policies, assist with undergraduate curriculum development and review, and support proposals for new and revised programs and courses through the various approval processes. In addition to assisting with the academic programs offered by the colleges, Undergraduate Studies offers a number of academic programs:

- Bachelor of Science in Applied Sciences
- Bachelor of General Studies
- Leadership Studies Minor
- Army, Air Force and Naval ROTC Programs

Undergraduate Studies provides strong set of Student Success programs designed to make it more likely that students will successfully navigate the complexities of the transition to college and the baccalaureate experience. (It integrates academic endeavors with meaningful experiences within myriad student development programs.) Together, they aim to provide coordinated opportunities for students to develop their identities and intellectual competencies for successful careers and lifelong learning. Those services include:

- Tutoring and Learning Services in the Learning Commons
- University Career Services
- First-Year and Transfer Student Orientation
- Transitional Advising Center (TRAC)
- Office of Academic Advocacy (OAA)
- University Experience Course
- First Generation Access and Pre-Collegiate Programs (FGAPP)
- Academic Enrichment Center for Student Athletes (AEC)
- Office for Undergraduate Research (OUR)


Position Summary:  The Professional Development specialists will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a range of professional development opportunities for USF faculty and staff as part of the Global Citizens Project (GCP).


Duties/Responsibilities:  Developing and implementing a plan for professional development to support the Global Citizens Project across different areas of the university, including Student Affairs.
Developing and implementing an evaluation plan to assess the effectiveness of professional development opportunities offered through the Global Citizens Project.
Developing and leading GCP workshops, course redesign cohorts, faculty learning communities, a seminar series, and other programming related to faculty and staff development, with an emphasis on student learning, instruction, and assessment.
Consulting with faculty and staff on instructional issues, student learning, and assessment, particularly in the area of  global citizenship.
Partnering with the Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence, USF Library, Student Affairs, and other campus units in GCP-relevant professional development programming for faculty and staff.
Collaborating with the GCP Assessment Specialist on professional development opportunities related to assessment.
Providing support to the General Education Council and Undergraduate Council in the certification of courses for the Global Citizens Project.
Preparing reports on the development, implementation, and evaluation of professional development offered through the Global Citizens Project.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with at least one year of experience in a professional training position. A Master's degree in Communication, Education, Adult Education, or related field is preferred. Certain grants and programs may also have specific education and/or certification requirements specific to the subject matter area of the program.

Preferred Qualifications:  Significant experience in curriculum development and design.  Evidence of excellence in teaching.  Extensive knowledge of assessment of student learning and pedagogy.  Demonstrated experience in professional development.  Instructional and/or professional development experience at a research institution.  International experience.
Experience in and/or working with Student Affairs.  Scholarly research or experience relevant to global citizenship/global learning.  Pedagogical publications.


Prefer Ph.D. degree completion by Spring 2015.


Special Skills Required:  Effective written and oral communication skills.  Strong interpersonal skills.  Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively.
