Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director of DAR Human Resources, this role will function as an HR Generalist supporting critical functions within the Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Department. The HR Generalist will deliver a comprehensive range of services across the entire employee lifecycle. Areas of support include recruitment and talent acquisition stages, Workday (an HRIS system) management, onboarding/offboarding processes, leave administration management, and routine HR generalist support.
The HR Generalist will work closely with the whole HR team to support the entire employee lifecycle. When working closely with the Assistant Director of Talent Management, the primary support role will be to ensure DAR hiring managers feel supported and follow best practices in all recruitment efforts. They will work to provide hiring managers with the guidance and support needed to facilitate the stages of the recruitment process in Workday, from posting through hiring and into onboarding.
When supporting the HR Business Partner, the HR Generalist will help ensure success in onboarding, leave management, compensation, performance management, employee relations, and offboarding. As a member of the Central DAR HR team, the HR Generalist will maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and accountability at all times and provide a high level of customer service.

Job Responsibilities
- Coach and provide consultative advice to hiring officers through the entire recruitment cycle and in advance on the preparation of job descriptions and the PIQ to ensure consistency and alignment with the appropriate job profile. Guide hiring managers through internal hiring best practices such as developing diverse candidate pools, ensuring DEIB recruitment strategies are present in all searches. Collaborate closely with the Assistant Director of Talent Management to identify and address recruitment needs, focusing on building, enhancing, and maintaining robust internal and external talent pipelines to attract and retain top talent. Including Managing job requisitions for nonexempt roles. Guide hiring managers through internal hiring best practices such as developing diverse candidate pools, ensuring DEIB recruitment strategies are present in all searches, confirming appropriate and commensurate salary ranges, documenting the interview process sufficiently
- Serve as the primary point of contact for new hires throughout the onboarding process and provide talent management support. Address routine inquiries regarding onboarding, orientation, offboarding, and performance review cycles.
- Provides HR Generalist support in employee relations, exit interviews, providing interpretation of policies and procedures for staff and managers. Consults with staff inquiring about leaves of absence, coordinating leaves with the Core HR Benefits/Leave office and Solution Center as needed. Provide guidance on tier 1 employee relations matters. Represents DAR, HR and the University of Pennsylvania with professionalism and confidentiality always, providing high level of customer service.
- Become a go-to subject matter expert resource with the HRIS system, Workday. Gather and analyze HR metrics by utilizing Workday reporting to help inform initiatives and improve organizational performance.
- Perform additional HR duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2-3 years of human resources experience in customer-focused roles are required, or equivalent education and experience combined.
- Ability to proactively build relationships to build trust both internally and externally with staff and departments across the University.
- Proven track record in talent acquisition and other HR experiences in a people/customer-focused environment highly desirable
- Ability to connect with all levels within the organization to foster a collaborative work environment
- Strong systems aptitude and ability to navigate an HRIS system
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, working effectively with staff at all organizational levels
- Adept time management, enabling the juggling and successful execution of multiple concurrent tasks and projects and corresponding communications on projects and assignments
