The Instructional Desginer position is situated within the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning. Reporting to the Associate Director of Online Learning Environments, the Instructional Designer provides instructional and program design expertise for the development and support of open online and hybrid courses and other specialized educational programs on campus.


The Instructional Designer assists faculty in the design of online/hybrid courses and instructional practices, the development of learning resources, and the re-working of courses and course segments for learning and supports the customized development of online courses unique to the needs of the instructor and students.


In addition, the Instructional Designer is responsible for ensuring online courses meet ADA requirements and performs technical reviews of online courses. This individual will work independently, with limited supervision; and is assessed based on the timely completion of assignments and quality of deliverables.


Responsibilities:


Supports faculty in the planning and development of online and blended courses, and provides instructional design expertise in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of online and blended courses.


Assists faculty with the improvement of instructional strategies, development of course materials and assessment techniques, and appropriate integration of instructional technologies and best practices.


Coordinates and facilitates interactions with faculty to integrate course content into various onling learning platforms inclusing Coursera, NovoEd, Kadenze, Blackboard or other appropriate technoloies that will enhance the teaching and learning experience.


Leads course development projects, and coordinates resources in order to support curricular projects. Monitors quality and engagement measures; analyzes key metrics to continuously improve our courses, services and products for our students.


Develops instructional materials including self-help documents, online tutorials, and other multimedia materials to assist faculty with the use of online learning technologies. Identifies and secures appropriate educational materials and resources.


Partners with library staff to ensure course materials are free of copyright restrictions and meet ADA compliance and other state and federal regulations.


Maintains fluency with current research in instructional design, learning theory and learning practices in higher education, web instructional strategies, web development technologies, and related practices and processes, and occasionally develops documents related to design and process improvement.


Develops expertise in and conducts assessments of curricular projects, technologies, and practices. Participates in meeting and activities with project team and overall group team.

Position Requires:


-   Knowledge of online course delivery platforms.

-   Research methodologies and techniques.

-   Processes and standards for planning and implementing instructional design and development.

-   Instructional technology media and materials development and implementation principles.

-   Learning theory and instructional strategies.

-   Experience in technical communication, writing, and end user training.

-   Knowledge of instructional design concepts and principles.

-  1-3 years proven experience


Additional qualifications:


-   Ability to organize and work effectively with an understanding of organizational policies and activities.

-   Proficient in communication, both oral and written.

-   Handle multiple and simultaneous tasks.

-   Work effectively with a variety of groups.

-   Organize work and effectively with an understanding of organizational policies and activities.

-   Prioritize, schedule and meet deadlines.

-   Work both independently and in a team environment.


Preferred:


-  Prior teaching experience in a higher education environment preferred.

-  PhD preferred.


The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully.


NOTE: This is a two year term position until July 1, 2017.
