Job Details
The Politics Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time, non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in political theory. Appointment to this position will be for a term of two years, beginning fall 2025, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Politics and Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow.
The Politics Department currently consists of eleven full-time faculty who focus their research and teaching in the areas of American politics, comparative politics, international politics, and political theory. The department graduates about 60 majors each year. More information about the department is available at https://www.oberlin.edu/arts-and-sciences/departments/politics.
The fellow will teach a total of two courses in the first year and three courses in the second year of the appointment, in the general area of contemporary political theory. We seek to complement faculty and curriculum in the history of political thought and anticolonial thought; applicants whose expertise can address American political thought, feminist theory and/or environmental theory are encouraged to apply.
The fellow will participate in the intellectual life of the department (attend lectures and other events, teaching workshops, etc.), and will participate in mentoring responsibilities for students interested in political theory.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree from a U.S. university awarded no earlier than 2022 but in hand by 1 July 2025. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
Review of applications will begin on February 7, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Completed applications received by the February 7th deadline will be guaranteed full consideration.
Questions about the position can be addressed to Kristina Mani, Professor and Chair of the Politics Department, kmani@oberlin.edu.
