Position Overview: The Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Professor for the Practice of Medical Education. This faculty position focuses on advancing educational practices through research and curriculum development for the Department of Anesthesiology, fostering an environment of academic excellence, and contributing to the overall mission of the institution.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Scholarship: Coordinate, develop, and mentor educational research in the Department of Anesthesiology to advance educational best practices in anesthesiology/medical education. The position must engage in scholarly activities related to medical education and contributing to the field through high impact publications. Secure grant funding for educational research in collaboration with clinical anesthesiology faculty. Inclusion of trainees in academic educational research is essential. Manage research initiatives throughout the entire process from IRB submission, through data acquisition and ethical management, to analysis and preparation of manuscripts for publication. Participate in the Quality Improvement education and training of residents and fellows. Projects should be completed to a sufficient level to prepare 3 for publication every year. Managing timelines toward completion and writing assignments is an important part of keeping writing manageable. Curriculum Development: Design, implement, and evaluate innovative educational programs and curricula for medical students, residents, and fellows in anesthesia. Collaborate with faculty to integrate current medical education theories and practices into the curriculum. Teaching and Mentorship: Deliver high-quality instruction in various formats, including lectures, workshops, and simulation-based training. Mentor medical students and residents in their educational and professional development, providing guidance in clinical skills and research. Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate learner performance and program effectiveness. Analyze educational outcomes to inform continuous improvement efforts in teaching and learning. Service and Collaboration: Participate in departmental, institutional, and professional committees related to medical education. Foster collaborative relationships with other departments and institutions to enhance educational initiatives.
Qualifications:
Postdoctoral degree, e.g. PhD, EdD. Demonstrated expertise in medical education and a passion for teaching. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience in curriculum design, assessment, and educational research is highly desirable. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational practices.
