This position coordinates the auxiliary budget process and oversees position control/position budgeting for salaried staff. This position also assists with new year budget preparation and year-end close of general and auxiliary funds. This position collaborates with team members from the Budget Office, Controller’s Office, and Human Resources, as well as budget managers/cost center managers throughout the University.

Primary Duties:

- Coordinate the auxiliary budget process.
  • Establish timeline and assist auxiliary budget managers in preparing budgets.
  • Calculate auxiliary overhead rates.
  • Provide revenue and salary estimates.
  • Prepare Auxiliary Budget documents for board budget presentation and executive officer’s review.
  • Prepare budget to be loaded in Workday.
  • Coordinate budget to actual reporting and salary projections.
  • Perform variance analysis for budget to actual results and comparison to prior year.
- Maintain position control and position budgeting for salaried staff.
  • Review and process Workday tasks for changes impacting salaried staff.
  • Calculate impact of salary changes for existing staff and new positions
  • Verify funding sources are sufficient and appropriate.
  • Make appropriate budget amendments and ensure balanced budget is maintained.
  • Work with Senior Budget Analyst to manage daily operations.
  • Serve on cross-functional salary increase team with Human Resources and Budget Office members to ensure accuracy and appropriate use of funding.
  • Advise departments on budgetary issues and processes.
- Assist in the preparation of the new year General Fund budget.

- Create or approve general fund budget and auxiliary budget amendments or journal entries throughout the year, including salary savings entries.

- Maintain annual transfer list and coordinate with accounting team.

- Assist with year-end close of general fund and auxiliary funds, including year-end budget amendments and journal entries.

- Assist and advise department and budget managers with budget planning and budget issues, including salary projections and other cost estimates.

- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses.

- Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related budget, accounting or finance experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the use of MS Excel.
  • Effective communication skills, specifically related to the ability to convey financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with senior management, faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to effectively summarize and present information.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to complete projects on a timely basis and to manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to the values of a service driven operation and best practices in customer service.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience with Workday, Adaptive Planning, or other accounting/budgeting systems.
  • Experience with MS Access, PowerPoint and Word.
Working Conditions:
  • Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
  • Partial r emote work options available.
Minimum Starting Salary: $65,000, commensurate with experience
