Position Summary

The Institutional Research Analyst will support the functions of Institutional Research and Analysis ( IRA ). In general, IRA provides university-wide data support, reporting and analysis in ways that support the mission of SUNY Cortland. Data used by IRA comes from a variety of sources and systems and is used for multiple purposes, including informing decision making and institutional planning, assisting the evaluation of academic, student support, and administrative programs, fulfilling mandated reporting to internal and external stakeholders, and meeting other data requests.

Major Responsibilities
  • Extract, collect, and gather institutional data from a variety of sources
  • Analyze institutional data to support completion of data requests
  • Report or share institutional data to internal and external stakeholders as appropriate and needed
  • Support administration and analysis of surveys managed by IRA (e.g., SUNY SSS, NSSE / FSSE, SUNY SVP ), which includes creating and distributing promotional materials and/or generating summary reports of survey responses
  • Assist in completion of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System ( IPEDS ) report series
  • Assist in completion of the NY State Education Department ( NYSED ) report series
  • Assist in completion of annually mandated SUNY reports (e.g., Survey of Non-Credit Instructional Activity)
  • Generate routinely produced internal reports (e.g., enrollment, retention, graduation)
  • Lead completion of the annual Common Data Set and affiliated requests to external stakeholders (e.g., US News, College Board, Princeton Review)
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
  • Reports to the Director of Institutional Research
  • Works closely with offices within the Academic Affairs division and throughout the campus
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with MS Office Suite of applications, including advanced techniques and features of Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookup formulas, charts)
  • Experience conducting statistical analyses and with software or platforms for statistical analysis (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience with administrative student information systems, preferably Banner
  • Experience with survey design platforms (e.g., SelectSurvey, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey)
  • Experience with SQL or similar programming languages
  • Experience with computer database systems and reporting/extraction tools (eg, Argos)
  • Experience with qualitative techniques of data analysis
