Job Description
Wentworth Institute of Technology has an immediate need and is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Licensed Electrician (Journeyman).
Reporting directly to the Facilities Manager, or Director of Facilities the Licensed Electrician will maintain, service, and repair electrical distribution, power outlets, and lighting systems through routine maintenance or “Work Service Request”.
Key Duties :
- Perform maintenance, repairs, alterations, and construction on the Electrical and low-voltage components to the interior and exterior of campus buildings.
- Responsible for electrical shop tools, inventories, etc.
- Troubleshoot, service, and repair control systems on boilers, cogeneration, refrigeration, laboratory equipment, clock, HVAC, and emergency systems.
- Perform small scale electrical installations including new outlets, lights, clock, switches, etc.
- Ability to understand and execute work of a preventative maintenance program
- Performs maintenance, repairs, testing or implementation of all electrical and control systems throughout the campus. Examples include lighting systems, power distribution, building controls (JCI or ENE), emergency power and cogeneration systems. Specific examples equipment requiring electrical maintenance includes boilers, the cogeneration system, emergency generators, refrigeration equipment in the cafeteria, and laboratory equipment and the fire alarm system.
- Must be familiar with electrical and building codes and be able to acquire maintenance and construction permits as necessary.
- The licensed electrician will maintain, service and repair electrical distribution and power systems, electrical outlets, lighting systems, and all plant and building equipment through routine maintenance.
- Specific examples equipment requiring electrical maintenance includes boilers, the cogeneration system, emergency generators, refrigeration equipment in the cafeteria, and laboratory equipment and the fire alarm system.
- The position will create work order and assign journeymen electricians or other maintenance staff as appropriate.
- When assigned will be a point of contact for contractors, project managers and our internal staff for electrical issues.
- Will pull electrical permits as required. Will ensure all equipment meets permitting and code requirements. Meets with electrical and building inspectors when needed to address any concerns or issues and resolves the issues to avoid any citations, fines, etc.
- Must excel in customer service and train staff to meet and exceed the needs of students, faculty and staff.
- Remain proficient in new techniques or technology and new procedures.
- Mentor students and co-workers in means and methods as appropriate.
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Electrical Journeyman’s License.
- Hold a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License to operate motor vehicles.
- High school degree, with a minimum of five years of experience in the field of electrical installation and maintenance of Electrical Systems.
- Excellent customer-service skills.
- 24-hour availability for emergency repairs and services
- Working knowledge of various electrical and low-voltage systems, components, and controls in buildings.
- Ability to read, communicate, interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams and specifications in English language.
- Associate's degree, or vocational or technical school degree
- (5-10) years’ experience in the field of Electrical installation & Maintenance of electrical Systems.
