Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Media Services Specialist II is responsible for maintaining and supporting the audio-visual/media, video conferencing, and streaming systems for classrooms, conference rooms, and auditoriums. Working with contractors, vendors, Facilities, and other IT staff, they assist the Associate Director of Academic Support Services in planning and coordinating the design, selection, repair, and installation of equipment. The Media Services Specialist II maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic equipment used in support of academic programs and assists in the integration of traditional audiovisual systems with new instructional technologies to ensure that the University keeps pace with the changing needs of higher educational instructional environments. Implements and performs training for students, faculty and staff. Oversees use and production of recorded events in areas with this built-in technology. Assists in set-up and support of high-level events as requested, including the Board of Trustees, major public events, and special events. Flexible hours, including nights and weekends, are required as needed. Works closely with the other Media Services Specialists as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide advanced technical support for the delivery, set-up, troubleshooting, and retrieval of equipment used in classrooms, auditoriums, and other campus facilities during events, presentations, and special lectures, ensuring that audiovisual systems and media technology operate smoothly.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic equipment and advanced projection and streaming systems in academic classrooms as well as other community spaces. Keep all hardware in good working condition and notify of equipment failures. Facilitate repairs, including shipping and receiving, with external contractors when necessary.
- Work closely with other areas in IT including technical support specialists, network services and infrastructure, and with the facilities department to complete projects and operations during installations and changes to technology.
- Assist faculty, staff, and other end-users by demonstrating the proper operation and care of classroom technology and formulates and updates operating instructions and training materials for the proper use of equipment while coordinating with the Teaching Technology team.
- Recommend and participate in decisions for new equipment and replacements in classrooms, labs, meeting rooms, auditoriums, theatres, and other areas. Work closely with stakeholders and vendors to determine needs and solutions.
- Provide on-call support as requested by faculty, staff, and students.
- Maintain University digital signage system, perform upgrades and work with other University departments for additional locations.
- Support the Associate Director of Academic Support Services to manage the ongoing inventory of audio-visual hardware and software, including warranty information of hardware. Update warranty information with manufacturers, as needed.
- Assist in the documentation of policies and procedures at the administrative level, documentation on operations, and contribute to documentation in other areas as needed for training purposes and development of the TSC portal.
- Use of IT ticketing system to record incidents for follow-up and resolutions according to departmental SLAs.
- Keep informed of changes and advances in media systems, A/V technology, multimedia, and computer, and other technology to better enhance the University's services.

- Keep a ready supply of necessary tools, replacement equipment, cables, connectors, etc. to ensure the ability to keep equipment functioning.
- Knowledge and use of mixing boards and lighting control in installed areas and portable locations.
- Knowledge and practice of routine safety procedures and building and safety codes are required.
- Performs other duties as required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and /or equivalent industry certification, such as Certified Technology Specialist (CTS).
- Three years of experience in media systems and A/V technology required.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and architectural blueprints; .
- Understanding of the infrastructure standards and needs of media systems, broadcast systems, and RF systems.
- Knowledge of both PC and Mac computer, their multimedia capabilities, and knowledge of IP networks, TCP/IP required.
- A demonstrated knowledge of the principles of advanced electronics, including digital/analog electronics, AV systems, and Crestron control systems (or similar), is required.
- The ability to maintain, trouble shoot, repair, and calibrate classroom instructional technology and Crestron or other AV control systems are required.
- The ability to maintain Crestron control systems that incorporate Biamp digital signal processors, lighting controls, screen and shade controllers, and other related peripherals, is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and other specialist tools and software such as Crestron Toolbox and Fusion, BiAmp Tesira, Visix, remote desktop, and other software.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Mechanical ability to use a variety of tools, install and remove equipment as needed, such as projectors, mounts, projection screens and displays, manage cable and cable paths (data and electrical) including termination points in rooms and buildings, and measure and calculate distances.
- Master's degree and /or equivalent industry certification, such as Certified Technology Specialist (CTS).
- Skills in and use of AutoCAD and/or Microsoft Visio software
- More than four years of experience working with audiovisual/multi-media systems, preferably in a higher education environment.
- Advanced certifications in programming, such as Creston.
- OSHA certifications a plus.
