Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Global Studies

The Osaka School of International Public Policy, Osaka University, invites applications for a open-rank faculty position in the field of Global Studies (tenure-track or tenured). The title and responsibilities will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

1. Conduct research and pursue external grants, including the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science’s Grants-in-Aid.

2. Teach on average 6 credit hours (graduate and undergraduate) per semester (three courses, each consisting of one 90-minute session per week for 15 weeks).

3. Perform administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. A doctoral degree must be obtained by the start date of the appointment.

2. Proficiency in English.

3. A working knowledge of Japanese is required for tenure.

We are seeking candidates who have obtained a doctoral degree in the humanities, social sciences, or related fields, who are engaged in policy-oriented research and teaching on global issues. Areas of interest include gender, environment, race and ethnicity, migration, education, public health, and civil society, but we welcome applicants from all disciplines and with any regional expertise. Candidates with work experience in international organizations or NGOs are also encouraged to apply.

Start Date:

A mutually agreed-upon date no earlier than April 1, 2026
