Sports Medicine Physician/Athletic Medical Director

Position Summary: General Health Services. Under the supervision of the Medical Director for Student Health Services, this position staffs the Student Health Services (SHS) medical clinic as a primary care physician with a certification of added qualifications in sports medicine, and serves in the role as the Medical Director for the Georgia Southern University NCAA Sports Medicine Program, Recreational Activities Complex (RAC), and Athletic Training Education Program. Georgia Southern University Student Health Services is a AAAHC accredited Patient Centered Medical Home, providing primary care to a diverse student population of over 20, 000 students, with an emphasis on general acute, episodic, and chronic medical care, including but not limited to young adult health issues, women’s health, musculoskeletal injuries, infectious disease, dermatology, as well as psychosocial and mental health issues in an integrative, evidence-based health model. The physician works as a key member of a team with other clinical staff, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, athletic trainers, and additional clinical support staff, and also provides consultation to members of the clinical team. Patients requiring specialty evaluation, hospitalization or emergency care are referred to the appropriate community resources. The current normal hours of operation are 8am to 5pm Monday-Friday. In addition, this position will be responsible for sideline coverage, and/or arranging qualified physician sideline coverage, for designated sporting events both on and off campus during and beyond normal business hours. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt career position. Georgia Southern University is a Tobacco Free Campus.

 

Minimum Requirements: Medical Degree from accredited school of medicine or osteopathy and unrestricted licensure to practice medicine in the State of Georgia; two or more years of patient care experience; demonstrated skills in the practice of medicine; completion of ACGME-accredited residency within specialty; board certification in a primary care specialty (Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine) or Emergency Medicine and possession of all legal requirements for the practice of medicine in Georgia as determined by the Georgia State Composite Board of Medical Examiners; documentation of completion of a Sports Medicine Fellowship that is accredited by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists; possession of a current and valid Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine; maintenance of standards of professional conduct as published by American Medical Association and the Georgia State Composite Board of Medical Examiners; maintenance of GA medical license, federal DEA prescribing number, Basic Life Support certification; effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications: One or more years of experience working as a Sports Medicine physician in a NCAA collegiate athletic; computer proficiency and first-hand experience in using electronic health records systems to document all patient interactions and to manage all medical information associated with providing care program

 

Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience
