Events Supervisor
Job Summary
The House Manager oversees all front of house operations before, during, and after events at Kingsbury Hall and occasionally UtahPresents' events at other locations. The House Manager leads a team of Ushers, Ticket Scanners, Concessions, and Merch Sellers, and works in tandem with the Box Office and Production team, to create a welcoming environment for patrons to Kingsbury Hall as the face of UtahPresents. They efficiently prepare the space to ensure patrons, artists, and staff have a safe and enjoyable experience from the time their ticket is scanned, to their safe departure from the venue. The House Manager is the on-site authority in the event of an emergency.
UtahPresents is seeking someone who can demonstrate strong leadership and problem-solving skills, work as part of a team, is process-oriented, and has a passion for customer service. The ideal candidate must have strong initiative, excellent communication skills, and a can-do attitude.
Responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working as a supervisor in a mid-to-large sized event venue or multi-plex movie theatre as a Manager and/or Event Coordinator.
- Volunteer supervision.
- Box Office background including experience with Spektrix, Ticketmaster or other similar ticketing systems, as well as ticket scanner technology.
- Knowledge of current Information Technology trends and platforms a plus.
- Proficiency in Spanish language a plus.
- Crowd Manager Training certification.
- First Aid/AED certification.
Essential Functions:
Due to the crowd management and safety aspects of this position, demonstrated ability to perform all of the below is required.
- Hire, train, and schedule paid and volunteer ushers, ticket scanners, concessions and merch sellers for scheduled events. Oversee performance review and make recommendations for retention.
- With the Event Manager, develop and maintain a volunteer usher program, recruiting motivated community members. Implement recognition program which may include end of season parties and comp ticket rewards.
- Adhere to performance schedules and timelines and communicate with Stage Management and Box Office to keep events running smoothly and on-time. Facilitate handover of house to and from production personnel throughout the event run.
- Prepare and set up for front of house aspects of events including placing parking cones and signs, VIP and security entrance setup, concessions stocking, reserved seating signage, ensure house and restrooms are clean and clear of debris, etc.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and conflict de-escalation and resolution abilities with patrons and staff of all ages and backgrounds, recognizing various approaches are required depending on the situation.
- Communicating and enforce venue policies including bag checks, preventing restricted items, photo/video restrictions, and contacting disruptive patrons.
- Be able to exercise judgment and tact to resolve issues or know when contacting management or emergency services is the right course of action.
- Scan tickets to verify validity, and direct attendees to their destination. Resolve seating issues as needed.
- Provide clear direction, maintain order, and prevent panic in a crisis.
- Complete pre- and post-show paperwork, incident reports, concessions close-outs, and merch settlements.
Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
- Be able to confidently operate and troubleshoot ticketing software, ticket scanners, point of sales systems, cash app readers, radios, and similar.
- Be proficient on basic scheduling, and Microsoft Office software.
- Assist patrons with disabilities by adjusting removable seating, checking out assisted listening devices, and similar.
- Be familiar with employee relations protocol and appropriately handing workforce concerns, escalating to venue staff as appropriate.
Physical Abilities:
- Able to walk, sit, stand for the duration of an event. Must be able to walk up and down stairs, and the ramped auditorium throughout the event.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Carry and set up temporary tables, chairs, and tents.
- Must be able to speak clearly and hear or lip-read adequately.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 3 years of progressively more responsible events coordination experience. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. A related field may include but is not limited to: Business, Communications, Hotel / Hospitality Management, Sports Management and Public Relations.
Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and supervising employees and processes.

Preferences
- Three to five (3-5) years management experience in retail, customer service, food & beverage and/or event operations, preferably in a theater environment; or the equivalent in education, training and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Experience working as a supervisor in a busy multi-plex movie theater, as a Manager, Concessions Manager and/or Event Coordinator at a mid-to-large sized event venue.
- Volunteer supervision, Box Office experience a plus.
- Experience with Spectrix, Ticketmaster or other similar ticketing systems a plus.
- Knowledge of current Information Technology trends and platforms a plus.
- Proficiency in Spanish language a plus.
