PS Cell Therapy Tech I

Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the Cell Therapy & Regenerative Medicine Program.

Medical Technologist with ASCP or NCA certification preferred. Master's degree in a biological science preferred

Responsibilities
1. On-the-job training specific to cellular and therapeutic apheresis, hematopoetic progenitor cell and other types of cell processing using aseptic technique, flow cytometry and product preparation for infusions.

2. Performs in vitro cell culture assays under cGMP conditions and demonstrates use of aseptic technique to perform in vitro cell culture and ex vivo expansion of tissue isolates.

3. Promotes quality patient care by safely handling biological products, communicating well with colleagues, supervisors, and clinical staff, and serving as a resource to clinical staff to facilitate collection, processing, storage, transport, and transplant of standard-of-care and investigational biological products.

4. Collaborates with principal investigators and study sponsors of investigational, clinical, or pre-clinical research studies by following study protocols, maintaining documentation to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance, and utilizing systems to organize, collect, report, and monitor data collection for these studies.

5. Performs and reports routine and some complex procedures and testing in a timely and accurate manner.

6. Performs quality control procedures and calibration for equipment, reagents and laboratory processes. Successfully participates in laboratory proficiency program.

7. Reviews, follows, and eventually authors (as assigned) Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory and research-associated tasks.

8. Performs validation procedures to establish, optimize, and upda!te Standard Operating Procedures and proper use of equipment and reagents.

9. Adheres to document control standards identified by the Program.

10. May manage project timelines, budgets, scope and labor.

11. Engages in training others on procedures and processes.

12. Follows Good Documentation Practices on all records.

13. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by this department, which includes pediatric and adult patients. Ability to interact appropriately, respectfully, and with deference or sensitivity as needed with patients, caregivers, and the range of clinical staff providing direct patient care.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities required of this position include:

Demonstrated familiarity with cell & tissue culture, cryopreservation, microbiology, aseptic technique and safe handling of potentially infectious human blood/tissues. Demonstrated analytical skills and critical thinking. Ability to follow protocols accurately and consistently, and competently adhere to detailed instruction on new tasks and general instructions on routine work. Assists in training others on techniques and methods as required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills with coworkers, patients, and clinic staff. Ability to work rotating on-call schedules (approximately one week a month, including holidays and weekends. Demonstrate familiarity with computer programs (Excel, Word, and data transfer programs). Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and experience with quality assurance standards.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting.to approx. 60 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a biological science or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Two years experience in lab, research, or related environment.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
