Assistant Women's Beach Volleyball Coach

The Beach Volleyball Assistant will work with the Head Coach to ensure an outstanding student-athlete experience. Assist the Head Coach in the operations of the Beach Volleyball program. Develop and teach beach volleyball skills and systems. Assist with a variety of administrative duties. Liaison with academic support, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, sports information and sports marketing. Recruit prospective student-athletes.
Requirements

1. Teach all skills with some specialization and oversee offensive and defensive systems:

-teach technical and tactical aspects of skills

-coordinate offensive and defensive systems

-track offensive and defensive performance during matches

-scout opponent's offense and defense and prepare strategies for competition

2. Recruiting

-Identify and assist in recruiting athletes that fit well into the SMC culture and will enhance the level of play within the program.

-travel to scout prospective student athletes

-work with SID and social media colleagues to promote exposure and results in a timely manner

-Help support the team's social media campaign: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

4. Public Relations and Marketing:

-liaison with sports marketing department to increase attendance and community support

-report results to Sports Information Director

-strengthen community public relations, especially with club beach volleyball programs.

-Facilitate community service opportunities for the team.

5. Strength and Conditioning:

-work with strength and conditioning coach to effectively carry out a strength and conditioning program for the team

-Nutritional education

6. Practice Player:

-Train with players in practice as needed

-Transfer of information to players through live game play

7. Other Duties as Assigned: Admissions assistance, academic support, practice planning, calendars and CARA. Oversee managers, equipment, calendar and camps. Assist with competition scheduling, travel logistics and expense reporting.

8. Problem Solving: We work with young student-athletes, which can require guidance with problem solving and decision making. Together we encourage them to grow and develop as young adults as well as beach volleyball players. Utilizing interpersonal communications, as well as academic support, and guidance along with goal setting.

9. Academic Support: Guiding a student athlete as they need support to manage their class schedule along with the load of practice schedules. Coordinating with Academic Advisor on study hours and grade reports.

10. Communication: Communication skills are paramount to our success as coaches. We are teaching beach volleyball, and Life skills. We need to teach, inspire, motivate, guide, calm, help focus, and reach our student-athletes. Creating an environment in which all players and staff can thrive -- growing and learning, creates a rewarding community.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree

EXPERIENCE

5 years minimum of coaching and/or playing at an elite level. Ideal candidate will have experience or degrees in Sports Science, Communications, Marketing, extensive beach volleyball experience as a coach and/or player.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Microsoft Office: Competency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Email : Using a range of clients, such as Outlook and Gmail
  • Databases: Managing a variety of databases including compliance systems
  • Accounting software: expense reporting
  • Travel management platforms: Using platforms to organize business travel
