Reporting to the Associate Dean of the College and Director of Programs for Access and Inclusion, the Assistant/Associate Director will assist in the creation, implementation, and management of programs and initiatives within the Office of the Dean of the College (ODOC) that support and advance Princeton's commitment to an inclusive student body.


The Assistant/Associate Director will work with the Associate Dean to administer, manage and perform outreach for the Freshman Scholars Institute, an academically rigorous, multi-disciplinary seven-week program for entering Princeton students.


Primary responsibilities within this program include the selection and recruitment of student participants; hiring, training, and supervision of program residential college advisers and resident graduate students (in accordance with practices and policies of the Graduate School and the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students (ODUS); collaboration with faculty and staff across the university to develop and execute academic and co-curricular summer programming that promotes success through student-centered pedagogy and inclusive community building activities; and conducting program evaluation and student assessment. The Assistant/Associate Director also provides supplemental advisement of FSI program participants and other underserved students.

 

The Assistant/Associate Director will also help run the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program, which supports undergraduate fellows in their pursuit of doctoral degrees in designated fields. He/she will assist in recruiting, selecting, and advising undergraduate fellows; designing the weekly workshop curriculum and two-day retreat each September; planning and managing the MMUF Regional Conference on a rotating basis; and preparing the annual report to the Mellon Foundation.


As necessary, the Assistant/Associate Director will also serve as a liaison between the Associate Dean and other University offices, including the Office of Admission, Financial Aid, the Graduate School, and Career Services, while also working closely with the staff in the residential colleges, in order to generate programs that facilitate access and create an inclusive community for all Princeton students.

Position Requires:


- Master's Degree

-Experience and demonstrated commitment to the value of diversity and inclusion in higher education.

- Ability to think creatively, take initiative, and to execute programming while demonstrating sound judgment.

- Experience working with students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and historically underrepresented communities and programs that support them.

- Demonstrated ability to advise, encourage, and inspire a diverse population of students.

- Experience developing and facilitating academic and co-curricular programs that generate student success through student-centered pedagogy and community building activities.

- Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team.

- 1 -3 years related work experience


Preferred:


- Doctoral degree.

- Strong written and spoken communication skills.

- Background or experience in residential life programming or advising.

- Experience working with and advising students with interest in STEM fields.
