ASSISTANT DEAN FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT
The University of Virginia Darden School Of Business, one of the world's leading business schools, seeks a highly motivated career counseling and services professional to lead our world class Career Development Center. With 70 Faculty, 330 staff, 825 students and 14,000 alumni, Darden’s mission is to improve the world by developing and inspiring responsible leaders and by advancing knowledge. Darden delivers the world’s best management education experience through its high-engagement learning environment, which is distinguished by three key elements: The case study method, Top-ranked faculty and Tight-knit community, comprised of students, faculty, staff and alumni. The Assistant Dean for Career Development will drive the CDC’s efforts to enhance the Darden School’s leadership position by helping students develop a foundation for career management success.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Strategy Development. Oversee the strategy and implementation of all CDC services, programs and events, and ensure they are in line with the department's commitment to providing a student-centered operation that is effective and user-friendly for students and recruiters alike. Develop initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the CDC in serving the needs of students and recruiters with a thoughtful focus on outcomes and metrics. Aspire to be a thought leader in MBA recruiting, with a clear understanding of the current recruiting landscape and ability to accurately predict and prepare for changes.
- Enterprise Collaboration. Collaborate with constituencies within Darden to (1) enhance the effectiveness of CDC programming, services and events and (2) align CDC activities with all other aspects of the MBA program and School. Develop strong relationships with alumni and other external constituencies that enhance departmental services and programs, strategic alliances and corporate relationships.
- Leadership. Proactively manage relationships with all CDC stakeholders – students, companies, Darden community and staff – and consistently balance the interests of each. Advocate for the CDC within Darden. Passion for tackling problems and enhancing performance of the CDC. Oversee and monitor the CDC operational budgets. Supervise the department's administrative, professional and support staff. Create and sustain a compelling work environment that fosters high engagement and produces outstanding results. Understand the importance of bringing new technology to the CDC and advocate for those additions. Use a data-driven approach to develop solutions.
- Business Development and Client Relations. Use political finesse to help companies work through their recruiting needs and find solutions that work within recruiting limitations. Demonstrate a strong executive presence and be an advocate for the CDC to all stakeholders. Commit to being accessible to students and companies and engage in the role of being the face of the CDC.
Successful candidates will have a proven track record that includes:
- Demonstrated ability to lead, plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels
- 5-7 years of experience in career services, human resources, marketing or sales
- Strong corporate experience and a strong corporate network
- MBA preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues/staff to create a results-driven, team environment
- High-energy, self-starter with a confident can-do attitude and high level of discernment for prioritizing
- Effective public speaking skills and executive presence
