MECHATRONICS INTRUCTOR

(Restricted)

 

Thomas Nelson Community College seeks dynamic, qualified individuals to join the faculty at the fourth largest community college in the Virginia Community College System. As a comprehensive community college, Thomas Nelson offers quality transfer degree programs, strong technical and pre-professional programs, and is known for its outreach to the community as a partner and leader in workforce development. The college also provides dual enrollment courses in partnership with local school divisions and developmental studies for students who need preparatory work to be successful in college-level coursework. Daytime, evening, and weekend courses are offered at the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, the Southeast Higher Education Center, and offsite locations.

 

The college seeks candidates committed to the mission of the comprehensive community college and experienced in working with a diverse student population, including adult learners and at risk students. The successful candidates will be committed to academic excellence and continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning. The ability to teach 15 credit hours along with outreach and service to the college community (developing partnerships, academic advising, committee work, and faculty governance) are also expectations.

 

Responsibilities: Teach courses in Mechatronics program leading to Siemens Level 1 certification. Must be available for summer contracts in addition to standard 9 month faculty contracts.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree in mechatronics, electromechanical technology, or closely related field, and Siemens Mechatronics Level 1 certification, or demonstrated equivalent experience. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population. Must be able to obtain Siemens Level 1 instructor certification within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechatronics, electromechanical technology, or closely related field. Current Siemens Mechatronics Level 1 instructor certification. Teaching experience, preferably at the community college level. Additional experience working in a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated leadership in a manufacturing position.

 

Rank and Salary: $41,263-$65,000 Rank and salary commensurate with education and experience.

 

Employment Dates: This is a full-time position with a start date of August 16, 2015.

Restricted position through September 30, 2017.
