Assistant Department Head for Biological Sciences, Mellon College of Science (MCS)-2000888
Job Summary
The Assistant Department Head is the individual responsible for helping students with course scheduling, defining their academic and career goals and identifying research opportunities. This person will serve as the primary academic advisor for all undergraduates associated with the department. Responsible for planning and implementing program initiatives and student activities, leading the undergraduate colloquium course, co-teaching the first and junior year seminars of the Mellon College of Science core curriculum, and also for working with faculty on curriculum development and administration on recruiting.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in an academic discipline required. Ph.D. in an academic discipline preferred.
- Two or more years' experience counseling college-level students
- Clear evidence of administrative capacity
Skills/Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills
- Ability to keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records, understand and follow directions, work in a culturally diverse environment, and supervise others
- Some evening and weekend hours are required
