University Services focuses on providing high quality, integrated services to the University community. The departments of Campus Dining, Campus Venue Services (TigerCard, Ticketing and Venue Management), Conference and Event Services, University Scheduling, Contract and Trademark Licensing, Housing and Real Estate Services, Print and Mail, Transportation and Parking, as well as centralized business services such as Finance, Communications and Information Technology are housed within University Services.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of University Services for Residential and Business Services, the Director of Business Services has responsibility within University Services for business relationship management, contract management, trademark licensing, and organizational effectiveness assessment and planning. In partnership with the University Services leadership team, the Director will foster business process improvement. Other business services roles include operational responsibilities for select leased properties. The Director will also work on special projects identified by the Vice President (and executive team) for University Services. Further, the Director is responsible for measurement of the efficacy of investments in the residential portfolio.
The Director will provide leadership and expertise in negotiations of contract terms and evaluation of customer satisfaction for University Services contracts, including contracts for third-party service providers and service level agreements with internal partners. In addition, the Director will work with the University Services leadership team to evaluate the use of external service providers. The Director serves as the University's liaison to the University Store (an independent cooperative that includes a convenience store and insignia merchandise store), Labyrinth Books (an independent bookseller that supplies course books for students), and other entities in leased space. The incumbent also manages the University's book discount purchasing program through Labyrinth Books.
The Director of Business Services will collaborate with the University Services leadership team in assessing and improving organizational effectiveness. The incumbent will support the development and regular reporting of data meant to monitor the effectiveness of the diverse units within University Services.
The Director of Business Services will supervise the Princeton University Trademark Licensing program and directly supervise the Associate Director for Trademark Licensing. The incumbent will develop a comprehensive program to both promote and protect Princeton's trademarks and images. The position of Administrative Assistant and Office Manager for the Residential and Business Services units also reports to the Director.
- Strong general business acumen, including business process, financial, and data analysis skills
- Capability to report on data from business information systems similar to PeopleSoft and other systems used in Princeton's University Services organization
- Ability to learn and implement Princeton University contract standards
- Demonstrable skills in leading efficiency and effectiveness assessments in collaboration with colleagues
- Ability to manage internal and external service providers
- Minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in roles relevant to this position
- Ability to work as an individual contributor or in collaboration with others
- Effective oral, written, and presentation skills, including the ability to develop business communication structures
- Ability to achieve results in collaboration with peers; strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Long-term strategic forecasting and planning capabilities
- Ability to lead and grow the competency level of a staff team of direct and indirect reports
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of contract and leasing terms and experience in negotiations of both
- Master's or MBA from an accredited institution
- Comparable supervisory experience
- Project management skills
- Competency in trademark management and licensing
- Knowledge of survey methodology and analysis
- Successful experience managing online communications
- Flexibility and tolerance of ambiguity to be successful in this newly developed and evolving function
