Research Physical Therapist

Job Summary

The University of Utah College of Health and Department of Physical Therapy & Athletic Training is seeking individuals to support our research program evaluating telehealth rehabilitation for persons with chronic pain conditions. The primary responsibilities of the persons working in these positions are to follow research protocols and provide treatment sessions using telehealth for persons with chronic pain. They will interact with patients and research participants who are receiving care at community health centers or other facilities throughout Utah and the region. They will also interact with other research staff on the study team. Because of the patient population involved in this study, the persons working in these positions should be able to communicate in both Spanish and English. Position may be full or part-time depending on the applicant's preferences and the work needs.


This position is funded by grants from the federal government.



Responsibilities
1.Provide telehealth sessions involving instruction in exercise, patient education and instructions for self-management of chronic pain

2.Participate in obtaining informed consent

3.Assist in scheduling patients for follow-up study treatment sessions and assessments

4.Data entry into REDCap study database

5.Documentation of all communications and sessions with study participants

6. Identify and report adverse events and protocol deviations.

7. Communicate with clinical partners, physicians, staff etc., around the clinical care of participants

Problem Solving
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
Current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body substance precautions and body mechanics to protect self, patients and personnel working with therapists.
Ability to participate in rotations of work area, weekends and week-day hours and assigned holidays.
Ability to follow ethical guidelines outlined by the American Physical Therapy Association.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications
Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current license to practice as a Physical Therapist in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the Physical Therapy Compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Physical Therapy Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Preferences
Able to communicate in both English and Spanish

Current license in the state of Utah as a Physical Therapist

Completion of University RED Clinical Certification within two months of hire required.

Completion of CITI Human Subjects and Good Clinical Practice Training within one month of hire required.

Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written.

Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA and IRB regulations; an understanding of research procedures; and the ability to function independently is preferred.

Experience with human subjects research

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software programs.
