PS Hourly Research Assistant
Job Summary
The School of Dentistry is seeking highly self-motivated candidates to fill two hourly research assistant positions in the Office of Research. The Research Assistants will work under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Brenda Heaton on collaborative and interdisciplinary projects that bridge the School of Dentistry with other colleges and departments across campus.
As a member of the School of Dentistry team, you are expected to form positive and productive relationships with peers, students, and leadership to support the mission, vision, values, and PROMISE standards of the organization. You are expected to encourage and foster a supportive and compassionate environment for all patients, students, faculty, staff, and the communities we serve.
Responsibilities
1. Develops scientific research projects with principal investigator.
2. Stays current with project-related scientific literature.
3. Identifies and implements creative solutions to overcome problems.
4. Compiles data from a variety of sources including interviews, literature sources and medical and genealogical records.
5. Enters information into department's computer system.
6. Assists research employees in preparing manuscripts and presentation materials by creating slides, charts, graphs and handouts.
7. Maintains up to date files and records of research data.
8. Searches sources such as reference works, documents, statistical records and evaluates applicability of collected data to research subject.
9. Responds to requests from agencies about specific projects.
10. Edits research papers, project reports and publication materials.
11. Performs quality control to resolve discrepancies and overlaps with data.
12. Schedules appointments, visits and meetings.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
Minimum Qualifications
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
Preferences
One year of research experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
An understanding of research protocols and procedures preferred.
