Clinical Research Coord

Job Summary

The Sayu Lab for Biomechanics & Locomotion at the University of Utah is seeking highly motivated candidates for a research coordinator to assist in ongoing studies involving biomechanics and clinical gait analysis. The candidate will work with Dr. Kota Takahashi to conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary projects that bridge biomechanics, physiology, engineering and rehabilitation medicine. The candidate will assist in data collection and analyses in ongoing clinical studies involving: 1) biomechanics and vascular physiology of individuals with leg amputation and diabetes, 2) foot-ankle muscle function and energetics in older adults, and 3) foot-ankle robotics/prosthetics and gait biomechanics in individuals with a leg amputation.

The position is for one year with the possibility of renewals based on performance and funding



Responsibilities
• Perform rigorous scientific experiments and work within an interdisciplinary team consisting of biomechanists, physiologists, clinicians, and statisticians. • Conduct biomechanics testing with a variety of instruments and tools (3D motion capture, force plates, electromyography, ultrasound). • Ensure data quality of biomechanics-related testing. • Perform data analyses and write computer code (Visual3D, Matlab). • Manage human subjects' data and oversee IRB protocols. • Assist with patient recruitment and scheduling. • Prepare standardized operating procedures for lab equipment. • Troubleshoot lab equipment • Train undergraduate and graduate students in lab equipment and analyses.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a health sciences or related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) with two years professional research experience and completion of University RATS Clinical Certification within one year of hire required. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, FDA, HIPAA and IRB regulations; an understanding of research procedures; and the ability to function independently is preferred.

Departments may require IRB CITI Course or IATA DGR training within a specified timeframe.

Departments may prefer a nursing degree for this position, which requires the incumbent to have two years related experience and possess a nationally recognized research compliance certification.

Preferences
• BS., in biomechanics, engineering, kinesiology, physiology, or a related discipline.
• 2 years of experience in biomechanics or motion analysis laboratory
• Experience in Matlab and Visual3D
• Experience in 3D movement analysis (e.g., motion capture, force platforms)
• Excellent organization and communication skills
Preferences:
• MS degree in a related discipline is preferred but not required.
• Capacity to perform rigorous scientific experiments.
• Experience managing multiple research projects.
• Experience in trouble-shooting lab equipment.
• Experience working with individuals with mobility limitations is desired, but not required.
• Experience writing standardized operating procedures and lab documentation.
• A clinical degree is not required.
