Job Summary
The Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Physician Assistant (PA). The Physician Assistant will provide treatment and evaluation to neurology patients in follow-up visits with modest attending physician support. This is an opportunity to join an incredible team and work at the Lehi Campus of Primary Children's Hospital, a children's hospital ranked as one of the best in the United States.  
 
The Division of Pediatric Cardiology is based at the Primary Children's Hospital Outpatient Services building on the benches overlooking Salt Lake City, and at the Lehi Campus in Utah County. Job location is at the Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital Miller Campus, located at 2250 North Miller Campus Drive, Lehi, UT 84043.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  1. Provides treatment and evaluation to neurology patients in follow-up visits with modest attending physician support
  2. Takes complex medical histories and performs physical exams
  3. Orders lab tests, imaging and electrodiagnostic studies, as well as other diagnostic procedures
  4. Monitors and adjusts medications
  5. Reaches tentative diagnoses
  6. Develops treatment plans in conjunction with the attending physician
  7. Completes dictation in a timely manner
  8. Reviews patient and family phone messages for physicians on the electronic medical record
  9. Evaluates patients in follow-up visits
  10. Updates medical histories
  11. Assesses response to treatment and side effects of medication
  12. Formulates plans for ongoing care and discusses these plans as needed with attending physicians
  13. Depending on division needs and candidates' interests/goals, there may be the opportunity to participate in subspecialty services and independent clinics.

  • This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners or behavioral health patients.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.



Preferred:

  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

Work Schedule Summary: Full-time, Monday through Friday. Schedule availability between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Scheduled shifts may vary depending on operational needs. As with any active medical practitioner, hours may extend to accomplish the work required that particular day.
