Lab Technician
Job Summary
The Vinberg lab at the Moran Eye Center at University of Utah is seeking a Lab Technician. The lab is involved in research on the human vision, eye disease and therapy development using modern and novel technologies. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and experience in wet laboratory setting. There will be opportunities to gain research experience and learn new experimental techniques. Responsibilities
- Maintain digital and paper records of lab purchases, SOPs, lab safety documents and research protocols.
- Perform routine lab tasks including cleaning/sterilization of tools, chemical and biological waste disposal, shipping and receiving of reagents and specimens.
- Assist in building and maintaining laboratory and scientific equipment. Troubleshoot problems with equipment by conferring with senior lab personnel and the PI.
- Participate in lab meetings.
- Exposure to mice
- Work with human eye tissues

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.

Preferences
- Responsible, collaborative and communicative.
- Wet lab experience, mouse husbandry.
