The Study Design and Biostatistics Center (SDBC) and the Cardiovascular Medicine Division in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah invite applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor Rank in the Research or Tenure Track. We are seeking candidates with the research skills and experience required to successfully assume roles in multi-disciplinary research teams, support and develop grant proposals, and provide guidance and mentorship to master's trained biostatisticians as well as undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will collaborate with clinical faculty researchers in the Cardiovascular Medicine Division and will have opportunities to participate in methodological research. Substantive interest and experience are desired in one or more of the following areas: methods for cardiology research, modern causal inference, clinical trial design, analysis of secondary data, machine learning and high dimensional data analysis, and applications of mixed effects models to health data. Support is available for candidates interested in independent methods research and career progression for those applicants who wish to pursue external funding.
The SDBC is the statistical core of the Translational Research: Implementation, Analysis and Design (TRIAD) Team, which is a multidisciplinary group of biostatisticians, epidemiologists, psychometricians, health economists, survey design researchers, systematic review experts and qualitative researchers engaged in a wide range of collaborations throughout the Health Science Center of the University of Utah. Focus areas of the SDBC include the design and analysis of clinical trials and observational studies, modern causal inference, machine learning methods, analysis of longitudinal and survival data, epidemiologic modeling, Bayesian analysis, statistical genetics and genomics, and behavioral statistics and psychometrics. The University of Utah has state-of-the-art labs and excellent support staff within a vibrant academic setting. Primary academic appointments will be in the Department of Medicine. Compensation will be based on academic rank, administrative, and educational experience. Rank and Track will be determined based on qualifications. The review begins immediately, continuing until the position is filled or the search is closed.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in biostatistics or a related discipline is required, as well as a demonstrated excellence in collaborative and methodological research. Experience writing statistical sections for grant applications is desired.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in biomedical or cardiovascular research is desirable but not required. Prior experience in the analysis of large administrative data sets is desirable but not required.
