Pool Manager

Job Summary

The Pool Manager will be responsible for organizing, planning, and coordinating activities at the HPER Natatorium on the University of Utah campus. This part-time role, involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of the pool, scheduling lifeguards, and ensuring a safe and clean facility. Hours will include evening shifts, and occasional weekends or holidays.



Responsibilities
Scheduling and Supervision:
  • Coordinate and schedule lifeguards for adequate pool supervision during various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Oversee and supervise pool operations in the absence of the Operations Manager, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Participate in hiring and supervising lifeguards, ensuring adequate coverage and compliance with certifications.
  • Serve as lifeguard in the absence of a regularly scheduled employee.



Administrative Oversight:
  • Manage administrative matters related to daily pool operations, including tracking group pool usage, chemical testing, cleaning and maintenance needs, etc.
  • Schedule and run monthly staff meetings that include lifeguard skill review, administrative changes, any other concerns.
Training and Safety:
  • Assess training needs and coordinate relevant programs, including facilitating Red Cross certification courses for staff.
  • Assist in maintaining lifeguard certifications and emergency action plans, handling emergency situations, and promoting a safe environment.
Communication and Outreach:
  • Communicate effectively with staff, Operations Manager, and custodial, addressing concerns, scheduling changes, and facilitating regular staff meetings.
  • Assist in promoting the facility and contribute to the recruitment of pool staff.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
  • Keep track of inventory, including first aid and rescue equipment.
  • Record and track statistical use information and provide necessary reports to the Operations Manager.
Compliance and Continuous Improvement:
  • Assist in staying in compliance with necessary trainings or policy changes from the University including annual trainings, Youth Protection Guidelines, and updates to best Lifeguard Practices.
  • Supervise subordinate staff if required and perform any other related duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
