Biostatistician I
Job Summary
The Study Design and Biostatistics Center (SDBC) at the University of Utah is seeking a MS statistician to carry out statistical analyses in collaboration with clinical and translational investigators.
We are a multidisciplinary group of biostatisticians, epidemiologists, psychometricians, health economists, survey design researchers, and systematic review experts engaged in a wide range of collaborations throughout the Health Science Center of the University of Utah. The SDBC serves as the Statistical Core within the Population Health Research Foundation of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Utah and provides a rich environment for methodological and applied biomedical research across the university. Focus areas of SDBC and Population HealthResearch faculty include the design of clinical trials and observational studies, longitudinal analysis, survival analysis, epidemiologic modeling, Bayesian analysis, modern causal inference, analysis of biomarkers, statistical genetics and genomics, computational statistics, health economics, methods for the design and conduct of systematic reviews, structural equations models, and qualitative research.
This position requires an ability to relocate to Salt Lake City, Utah, but it may have the option for a hybrid - partial onsite/partial telecommute - work schedule.
Responsibilities
1. Provides basic statistical analysis support
2. Reviews data for discrepancies, interacts with data managers, and creates analysis datasets
3. Prepares and communicates statistical results in written and oral summary
4. Conforms to statistical programming and analysis standards
5. Minimum Qualifications
This position requires familiarity with standard statistical analysis procedures with a minimum of a BS degree in statistics, biostatistics, a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); General programming skills or familiarity with at least one statistical programming language such as SAS or R with the ability to independently gain new skills and solve difficult programming challenges; Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is necessary; An ability to work on several projects simultaneously and manage deadlines, and good communication skills.
Preferences
The ideal candidate would have previous experience in a statistical consulting role, be able to meet with investigators independently, and develop statistical analysis plans under the guidance of senior statisticians.
Individuals should contain skills in data analysis, supervisory skills, interest in new statistical methods, and mastery of at least one statistical programming language.
Familiarity/experience with data cleaning, database preparation and management in SAS is a plus.
This position requires extreme care, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work with large datasets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Prior experience in a biomedical research setting is desired.
