Job Summary
Job Summary
The Division of Adolescent Medicine is looking for a full-time Nurse Practitioner to join an innovative team of providers at the University of Utah and Primary Children's Hospital. The Nurse Practitioner will collaboratively deliver coordinated and goal-directed care for LGBTQIA+ Adolescents, including transgender affirming care, eating disorders, and other Adolescent specific conditions.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assesses the physical condition of LGBTQIA+ Adolescents, including transgender affirming care, eating disorders, and other Adolescent specific conditions by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
- Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient's condition.
- Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
- Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
- Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
- Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
- Additional activities include assisting with staff development/education specific to Adolescent Medicine, quality improvement activities, and performing other duties to facilitate coordination of care for patients.
- Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.

- Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
- This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners or behavioral health patients.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
