JOB TITLE:   

Visiting Assistant Professor

JOB PURPOSE:   

The University of Wyoming Honors College invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position beginning August, 2025. The Honors College is a center of excellence and innovation in undergraduate education that provides a community of opportunity and belonging for students and faculty alike. For the VAP position, we seek a colleague to lead us in community-engaged learning that brings interdisciplinary / transdisciplinary approaches to bear and to help students experience the benefits of integrating multiple perspectives when working on challenging problems. The successful candidate would have expertise in applying interdisciplinary / transdisciplinary approaches to at least one specific major issue or project. We welcome applicants working on significant issues including, but not limited to, food security, energy transitions, the implications of AI; global climate; democracy; access and engagement; mental health.

The successful candidate will teach 2-2; we will invite them to team-teach at least one of these courses. Significant further responsibilities will include: leading the Honors College in enhancing the experiential learning component of our curriculum; in consultation with colleagues, organizing an annual experiential learning showcase to highlight student work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Teach four undergraduate courses per year; two will be in the first-year Colloquium cohort; two will be upper-division electives based around transdisciplinary community-engaged learning.
Coordinate with Honors College colleagues to develop best practices for experiential. Learning in the college
Coordinate with the Honors College to lead a showcase of student work in experiential learning
Mentor students on capstone projects (2 projects per year)
Attend college meetings 
Have access to senior faculty mentorship
Have access to professional development funds

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

PhD or highest degree in field of primary expertise
Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching over at least two years
Demonstrated success in transdisciplinary projects
Demonstrated success in experiential learning
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

Exceptional success in the areas listed as minimum qualifications
Demonstrated commitment to creating and sustaining communities of belonging and support
Demonstrated success in mentoring students on individual and group projects
Demonstrated success in leading academic initiatives 
Demonstrated success in organizing showcases of student work
