The Austin College Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology to begin August 2025. We seek a broadly trained biologist who will contribute to our physiological and organismal biology curriculum by teaching courses in anatomy & physiology, human physiology, and other related courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Biologists at the interface of disciplines across the broad field of biology are encouraged to apply.
Teaching responsibilities include the appropriate semester of our introductory biology sequence, one semester of anatomy & physiology, an upper-level course in human physiology, other courses in the applicant’s area of expertise, and occasional non-majors science courses. The standard teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester (typically two courses, each including a lecture and accompanying lab) plus a January Term course every other year. Candidates should consider how they would engage undergraduates in research, through coursework, and/or in projects during the summer or academic year. Startup funds are provided, and additional funding is available for mentoring summer research students. Austin College faculty also participate in campus service and governance, and mentor students as academic advisors. The successful candidate will have strong commitments to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment and to fostering and encouraging diversity in their classroom.
Individuals from historically underrepresented groups and those who share our commitment to inclusion and diversity are strongly encouraged to apply. Austin College faculty pride themselves in providing a welcoming working community. The college is a Hispanic-serving Institution (HSI).
